If you hit up Vodafone’s official UK website, you can now start placing orders for the gargantuan HTC Desire HD or the solidly-built Nokia N8. If this handset tickles your fancy, you can pick it up at most Vodafone retail outlets, or optionally online. According to Tech Radar, Vodafone have confirmed the following pricing and plan details:

Big honking Saturday morning rumor here! According to IESB.net, George Lucas will be creating a new trilogy once the first six Star Wars movies go 3D. This echoes what Lucas did in the 1990s after the original trilogy was rereleased.
When you check the link, IESB.net may be down from a traffic surge, but here are the pertinent details:
Also, the trilogy is reported to kick off 24 months after the 3Ding of Return of the Jedi, and the next three episodes (which could be either Episodes 7-9 or 10-12) could possibly "occur as far as 100 years or 1,000 years in the Star Wars universe future." Furthermore, the IESB source claims that the movie will not focus on the Skywalker clan.
IESB's broken a couple pretty big scoops (including Joss Whedon being tapped to direct The Avengers and the PG-13 rating ...

In the Android version of Angry Birds, you can unlock the different worlds of the game without having to beat each level. And since some of those pigs are impossible to smash, you'll probably end up doing this.
Here's how to do it:
1. Go to a World Select Screen
2. Center a locked world on your screen
3. Hit the back button on your Android phone until you exit Angry Birds
4. Load Angry Birds back up
5. When you see the 'Play' button, tap the button repeatedly
6. You're now inside a locked world
You still need to beat each level to advance in the world but with this method you can start new worlds without finishing the old ones. Howeva be warned! You might not feel the same accomplishment the rest of us honest, hard working folks feel. [Reddit via Android Community]

Apple and Blackberry have recently been involved in a war of words over the touchy subject of tablets and market-share. However, according to a report by Strategy Analytics, the numbers are stacking in Cupertino’s favor. The report indicates that Apple has shipped 15.4 million iPhones in the third quarter of 2010. BlackBerry on the other hand shipped only 12.3 million handsets in the same period. This is the first time Apple has outdone their fruity counterparts on a quarterly basis. Nokia still retains their top spot, shipping an impressive 26.5 million smartphones in the quarter. These figures add insult to injury, following Steve Jobs’ tirade on BlackBerry during last weeks conference call.
“We’ve now passed RIM. And I don’t see them catching up with us in the foreseeable future. ...

After 30 years, Sony has announced that they will stop manufacturing and selling the venerable cassette Walkman. In a poetic twist, the official death of the Walkman lands on the iPod's 9th anniversary.*
The Sony Walkman was introduced on July 1, 1979 in Japan and it was a major breakthrough in delivering a low-cost portable stereo. It wasn't an overnight hit though, it was largely panned by the media and only sold 3,000 units by the end of July. But Sony kept on pushing, targeting the Walkman toward the younger market and advertising it with younger pop stars. By the end of August, sales increased 10-fold and later in the early 80's it became the must-have item for everyone. Over its 30 year history of the Cassette Walkman, Sony sold 200 million units. A portable music player became ...

A suspicious, bomb-like package was spotted in front of a Social Security Office in Florida. The bomb squad was sent out to defuse the situation but when they arrived, they found out the "bomb" was actually a box filled with kittens.
Apparently, the bomb squad didn't hear the usual ticking that marks a bomb but rather the soft meow of a cute 'ol kitten. NBC Miami says:
Sadly, one of the kittens ran off and has yet to be found. The other will be brought to a shelter. [NBC Miami]

No major Android update is complete without the customary unveiling of its dessert statue. The Googlers have uploaded a YouTube video showing them taking delivery, and erecting, the much-awaited Gingerbread man. Gingerbread is the next iteration of Android and was previously believed to be enumerated as “3.0.” Recent reports have suggested Gingerbread might be referred to as Android 2.3; according to a Google employee 2.3 is a “major release.” Whatever it may be numbered, the latest version is believed to bring a re-worked GUI, native video chat and VoIP calling, amongst other new features. The official release date is still unknown, but our money is on sooner rather than later. Hit the break to watch the Gingerbread man and Froyo in peaceful co-existence at Google& ...

Pirate Parties International recently had a meeting wherein a particularly bonkers proposal was discussed. The problem: Where can servers that store data frequently seen as unsavory be kept? The solution: Hanging from a giant balloon in the sky?
Pirate Parties International, which, notably, does not have direct ties to PiratPartiet (the Swedish political party with two MPs and links to The Pirate Bay and WikiLeaks), still has to constantly deal with the seizing of various servers. Trying to keep these servers safe from the authorities is no easy task, one that is constantly being fought. The group tried back in 2007 to store its servers on Sealand, a former British naval base off the coast of Suffolk that (mostly) seceded and claimed independence as a micronation. The Slate 500 also comes with a 1.86GHz Atom processor, 2GB of RAM, a 64GB SSD, a digital stylus (usable thanks to a Wacom active digitizer), a 3-megapixel rear camera, a VGA front camera for video chat, a battery said to last for about five hours of usage per charge, and the lovely diamond pattern on the back case that we all know and loathe. HP’s new tablet will not support cellular data connectivity — only Wi-Fi. Yes, $800 is a bit steep ...
