As you can clearly see, no, we didn’t snag the royal purple BlackBerry Style, but Sprint and RIM were nice enough to hook us up with a steel grey (also known as black) unit, and we’re up and running. After a quick Enterprise Activation, the emails are flowing like wine. But there are no beautiful women instinctively flocking like the salmon of Capistrano — yet. Here are some of our first impressions on the device we exclusively showed the world way back in April: It’s not as big as we figured it would be. The BlackBerry Style is a little thick, but not overly hefty, and definitely manageable. The keyboard is… not as great as we hoped, and expected, it to be. It’s good, more than usable, but it feels a bit like the Torch’s keyboard — not enough ...

Worried that a boring ol’ black T-Mobile myTouch 4G (which T-Mo still insists on calling just “myTouch?) might not compliment your favorite kicks? Don’t sweat it: you’ve got options. CellPhoneSignal managed to wrangle up this promo shot of the four different hue choices you’ll have to pick from when this thing launches in a few weeks: black, plum, red, and white. While we’re on the topic of phone colors: what happened to all the pink phones? There were a few months there where everyone had at least 2 or 3 phones in pink. I blame Microsoft’s Project Pink. Pink phones died with the Kin.

Even though we've seen a torrent of Windows Phone 7 devices, we couldn't leave you hanging on a review of the Samsung Focus. In the last few days, a flurry of new Microsoft-powered devices have hit the market, boasting slight differences, but all looking and acting largely the same. We've taken a deep dive on the operating system itself, the Omnia 7, Optimus 7, Mozart, HD7, and Surround (phew!) -- now it's time to focus on the, er... Focus. The device itself has a lot in common with its European brother, the Omnia 7, boasting the same 4-inch Super AMOLED display, 8GB of internal storage, 1GHz CPU, and 5 megapixel camera. The device will soon go on sale in America for $199.99 on AT&T's network -- in fact, it's the only Windows Phone 7 device you'll be able to buy on the network when they ...

Everybody panic! The guys over at Android Central spotted this posting from on the Android code repository (from one of Android’s Security engineers, no less) indicating that the next major build — presumably the much hyped Gingerbread — will be version 2.3. The bad news? Rumors had pinned Gingerbread at version 2.5 or 3.0, implying that it’d be a fairly monstrous update. Sure, there are no official rules for version numbering; the jump from 2.2 to 2.3 can be just as huge as a jump from 2.2 to 2.5, 3.0, or 8.7. But there are unspoken rules (largely fueled by pride). Rule #1: If it’s a big ol’ update, show it with the version number.

There are 18,000 parking lot attendants in the U.S. with college degrees. There are 5,000 janitors in the U.S. with PhDs. In all, some 17 million college-educated Americans have jobs that don't require their level of education. Why? The data comes from a the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and can be seen here in handy, depressing chart form: At the Chronicle, where the above chart was posted, Richard Vedder argues that maybe we place too much importance on higher education, citing a new study by the National Bureau of Economic Research: Whatever some eggheads work out "college" to mean for people on paper can't really take into account the experience of going to college, but the numbers are pretty surprising nonetheless. So next time you see a custodian scribbling the proof to some ...

It looks like blog CellPhone Signal got their hands on several images of T-Mobile’s yet-to-be-released myTouch 4G HSPA+ set and all its color variants. As originally announced by T-Mobile, the device will be available in white, black, red, and plum. To be honest, we’re a little disappointed T-Mobile didn’t jazz up the color names — we were thinking abyss black, luscious lavender, $4-cabernet red, and lion’s tooth white… or something like that. Regardless, if you’re planning on picking up a myTouch 4G, and prefer a little color in your pocket or purse, have a look and let us know what you think. Read

  • Halogen-CFL Hybrid Light Bulb Gets Instant Full Brightness [Lighting] Read More >>
2010-10-22 17:20:00     Category: iNews Review     Total Views: 0     From gizmodo.com

General Electric's new halogen-compact fluorescent (CFL) light bulb solves the main complain people have about CFL: It takes too much time to achieve full brightness level. I don't care too much about that, but it's really neat looking. It's very simple and clever. When you turn the light on, both the CFL and the halogen module light up. That makes the light obtain an optimal brightness level right when it gets turned on. When the CFL achieves full brightness, the halogen automatically shuts down. GE says that these 15- and 20-watt hybrid lights could replace 60- and 75-watt incandescent light bulbs, with lower consumption and eight times their life span: 8,000 hours. No word about pricing or availability yet. [GE via Inhabitat] Send an email to Jesus Diaz, the author of ...

Don't take this as the gospel, but online retailer Expansys has gone ahead and listed Dell's Venue Pro -- affectionately known as "the Windows Phone 7 device with a portrait QWERTY slider" -- with pricing and availability date in tow. Which, if you're wondering, is £499.99 (or about $783 in US dollars, when crudely converted) and Monday, November 8th, respectively. That's just over two weeks away, which means if it is true, you won't have long to wait... and if it's not true, you'll know soon enough, anyway.Dell Venue Pro gets Expansys listing: £499.99 for November 8th originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 22 Oct 2010 17:05:00 EST.
