MetroPCS has acquired the spectrum and other wireless assets of Pocket Communications New England. Pocket NE's coverage includes portions of Connecticut and Massachusetts. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, though MetroPCS said that it will use Pocket NE's assets to add to its own coverage in the region, and will eventually deploy Long Term Evolution there via its AWS spectrum holdings. Pocket sent a letter to customers in September warning them that the company was insolvent and would cease operations on October 31, 2010.

We've seen some leaked documents showing off potential Windows 8 features and we expect to see the operating system in 2012, but now we know that it is going to be Microsoft's "riskiest product bet." We don't know exactly why the operating system is considered such a risk by Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, but that's what he dubbed it during a recent interview. I'm sure we'll find out more soon. • 2.3 to be next major Android release from Google? Read More >>
2010-10-22 23:10:16     Category: iNews Review     Total Views: 0     From boygeniusreport.com

If you thought you would have to wait until Android 3.0 to see the next major revision of Google’s mobile OS, think again. In an Android support thread, discussing an issue with Android 2.2 and WPA enterprise wireless networks, an anonymous Google employee let out a little bit of a bombshell. As the post reads: Yes, Android 2.3 is a “major release”, and this patch will be available then. The “patch” the Google employee is referring to is a fix to allow WPA EAP authentication that was, apparently, broken, committed to the Android repository, and pushed out with Android 2.2. Sounds good to us, but what do you think Android 2.3 is going to be called? Our vote: Pavlova. [Via Android Central] Read

Awkwardly-coiffed magician Penn Jillette is an inventor. His greatest triumph: a "hydro-therapeutic stimulator" for women with jetstreams directed to "stimulation points (e.g., the clitoris) of the female user when the female user sits in the seat." Meet the Jill-Jet. Hey ladies, I know what you're thinking: There is nothing sexier than sitting in a giant vat of jetstreaming masturbation. That is why Penn Jillette invented the Jill-Jet. Click to enlarge. As the 1999 patent explains, the Jill-Jet is "a spa that includes a dedicated stream of fluid that is directed to specific sensitive areas of a female's genitalia to promote pleasurable (and perhaps climatic) genitalia stimulation and therapeutic relaxation." (He meant "climactic," right?) As far as I can tell, the Jill-Jet is ...

Let’s just go ahead and just throw this out there: EarSonics’ SM3 in-ear headphones are not a “stocking stuffer” item. Furthermore, they are — in all likelihood — not going to interest the majority of you. So what are they? They are $379.00 worth of skull-thumping, head-bobbing, eardrum-titillating, in-ear bliss. If you’re an audiophile, and take sound very seriously, you should definitely take a look at the SM3s. Designed by French audio firm EarSonics — a company that specifically caters to musicians, sound engineers, and audiophiles — the SM3s are a serious piece of technology. Built with three drivers — 1 low, 1 mid, and 1 high, all with three-way passive crossover — the buds can respond to frequencies between 20Hz and 1 ...

  • Teen Who Clearly Wanted to Blow Things Up Jailed After Detonating Exploding Pen [Bombs] Read More >>
2010-10-22 21:00:00     Category: iNews Review     Total Views: 0     From gizmodo.com

Sixteen year old Jessie Bauguess is in jail. Not for bullying, not for underage sexting, not for shoplifting—no innocent teen follies at all. Rather, he's behind bars because he detonated a bomb-rigged pen at school. First of all, based on that photo, if he is sixteen years old then I am a goddamn Roomba. But Jesse's story is troubling beyond the cultivation of his sociopath in the making look. A teacher from his former high school says he was expelled after students discovered detailed maps of the school and hand drawn bomb diagrams. You would think—hope, even—that by this point, some sort of authority would have stepped in to help a kid who is obviously very screwed up. But instead of intervention, he got expulsion. And now he's in jail after sending another ...

You know what sucks? Having your house burn down. You know what sucks even more? Not being able to call the fire department because your phone’s baseband silently crashes whenever you disable WiFi, as is the case with the Sprint Samsung Moment. Or, I should say, as was the case. A bit over a month after the aforementioned bug made headlines, Sprint has just pushed out a maintenance update that they say should fix “911 call restrictions after modem crash related to airplane mode and data lockup?. At least one user in the Sprint forum is claiming that the issue still exists post-fix. If you’ve got a moment and a Moment, be sure to give that ol’ WiFi switch a quick switch off, wait a few minutes, and then try placing a call. Let us know how it works, won’t you?

Cupcake, donut, eclair, froyo. That's not just a list of Android iterations, it's also an inventory of all the giant decorations (along with a large green robot) that cover the GooglePlex lawn. And today marks the introduction of a large gingerbread man.
